Leon Steinmiller Award:
This memorial award was created in 2013 in memory of Leon F. Steinmiller (1927-2012) and is given by the Board to a worthy recipient(s) who demonstrates the above and beyond attitude when volunteering for club projects. The purpose of this Award is to recognize a Chapter member who has consistently gone above and beyond expectations, volunteered his/her time, worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, without recognition, to support a variety of Chapter activities.
Leon F. Steinmiller, 85, of South Haven, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on April 14, 1927 to Louis and Margaret (Zechlin) Steinmiller in Downers Grove, Illinois. Leon served his country in World War II in the Navy. Leon married Mamie Wagner on May 19, 1951. Leon worked as the maintenance supervisor for South Haven Public Schools for 34 years until his retirement in 1986. Leon was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to travel. He was active in the Steelheaders, River Bend Boat Club, South Haven Yacht Club, VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Elks Club.
